Description:

“Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus” sets the familiar text of Charles Wesley with a much darker, somber musical setting. The tunes traditionally paired with these words express a lighthearted and hopeful expectation of the coming of Christ, whereas Dishman’s setting conveys a desperate need for the Messiah. Composed as a crying-out of prayer that God would send the Savior into the world, the piece builds in intensity from a quiet petitioning to an anguished pleading by the final stanza.
