While it is easy to become discouraged by the systems of injustice that pervade our world, Julian’s text reminds us that life and love always prevail. Care should be taken to sing each refrain with this conviction and confidence while still respecting the suggested dynamic markings, as too much power can jeopardize the gentle folk-style of the piece. The verses should start with room to grow dynamically, building throughout, leading to strength and conviction in the refrain.
