The National Taiwan Normal University and the University of Florida hosted the 4th International Symposium on Assessment in Music Education in April 10-13, 2013. The symposium brought together 226 music education professionals from 13 nations to the campus of the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan.The fourth ISAME proceedings consists of 26 papers document the presenters’ contributions to scholarship and practice in music education assessment in local, state, and national contexts at all levels. The attendees also met in special work group sessions to discuss the key questions of the symposium; their discussions are summarized in the proceedings to give an in-depth view of the current state of practice, measurement, and policy in music education assessment. As music educators across the world face increased expectations for accountability of student learning in music, this set of proceedings provides insight to guide their work.

About the editors:
Timothy S. Brophy is Professor of Music Education and Director of Institutional Assessment at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Mei-Ling Lai is Professor of Music Education and Hsiao-Fen Chen is Associate Professor of Music Education at the National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. Professors Brophy and Lai served as co-chairs of the symposium, and Dr. Chen served as the associate chair.
