Description:

Richard Proulx brings this 19th century German song to the modern world of Christmas choral music. The first part of each verse is intended for a soloist; the choir provides responses in the second part. Lots of chromaticism makes for lush harmonies and refined expression. This melodic setting may be done simply with choir and organ (and optional harp and flute) or more elaborately with winds and strings.
