Vamos a Cantar is a vibrant collection of 230 Latino and Hispanic folk songs and chants to sing, read, and play!
All lyrics are provided in Spanish followed by a general English translation that conveys the gist of the text but is not meant to be sung. Also included are audio recordings of every song to help with pronunciation, along with game instructions, background information, and performance tips.
Songs are organized by melodic content according to the Kodály classification system, starting with simple so–mi songs and progressing to more advanced pentatonic songs, as well as songs including fa, songs with ti but no fa, songs with fa and ti, and songs in minor. More than a dozen rhymes and chants are also included.
A general index at the beginning of the book provides a wealth of information, including each song’s title in Spanish and English, solfege content, range, meter, anacrusis, form, and song type/game.
The book concludes with additional indexes, supplementary cultural information, a list of sources, a pronunciation guide, and several pages of basic Spanish vocabulary to use in the music classroom.
