Description:
“Prayer of Israel” is intended to be a sung dialogue between the Israelites in exile and God as Christ the Messiah, who responds to their prayers with the words of Hosea 13:14: “I will ransom [you] from the power of the grave, I will redeem [you] from death.” In the opening section and the similar passage at the end of the piece, the accompaniment plays a supportive role as it doubles the voice parts; in the intervening measures, the independent piano part takes on a more prevalent role in the ensemble. Your choir will enjoy making the most of the contrasts in tempo, tone, and dynamics throughout this piece.
