Description:

“Es ist ein’ Ros entsprungen” is a German folk carol dating from the fifteenth or sixteenth century; it was included in several German Catholic hymnals shortly thereafter. Most present-day choirs have come to learn the piece through the harmonization of Praetorious, whose setting is augmented here by a fauxbourdon treatment of the second stanza by Proulx. This Praetorius/Proulx arrangement first appeared in a 2006 collection, Six A Cappella Christmas Carols (G-6463) and is published in single octavo form here for the first time. This arrangement was featured in two episodes of the HBO series The White Lotus, season 3, which aired in 2025.
