Description:

In 1909 the Knights of the Order of St. John asked Richard Strauss (1864–1949) to compose a processional piece for an investiture ceremony. The full title of Strauss’ composition is Feierlicher Einzug der Ritter des Johanniterordens (Ceremonial Entry of the Knights of the Order of St. John). It is scored for a large brass ensemble of twenty-five players plus timpani. This arrangement by James Biery, “Festival Procession,” makes it possible to achieve the grand unfolding of the piece with a typical brass quintet supplemented by organ and timpani. The piece is suitable for any solemn or festive occasion.
