  2. Solfége Editions

These pedagogically groundbreaking editions by James Jordan and Marilyn Shenenberger represent the only practical application to date of Edwin Gordon's Music Learning Theory to the choral rehearsal teaching/learning process. This "method" of solfege application was developed over a 15-year period by James Jordan with his work with the Westminster Chapel Choir and the Westminster Schola Cantorum at Westminster Choir College of Rider University.

Regardless of the music experience or level of your ensemble, these editions provide long-term music learning and ensemble skills by moving choral directors away from teaching parts alone and toward teaching ensembles to learn how to work within a harmonic context!

These editions are designed to keep EACH voice part in MAJOR...the tonality that every singer can hear without difficulty. The pedagogical change for choral directors is that when using these editions, all parts must be sounded so music learning takes place ALWAYS within a harmonic context. "La"-based minor solfege in these editions uses solfege as an intonational rather than a literacy device. Because the singers are always learning their parts in this harmonic context, intonation problems stabilize and are resolved from the first reading. Each edition comes with extensive notes from the editors to guide conductors. Additionally, these works were chosen by Dr. Jordan because of the vocal principles that can be taught and reinforced through the use of this literature.

Conductor/teachers anxious to learn more about this system of Harmonic Immersion Solfege developed by James Jordan can study it in depth in The Choral Rehearsal (GIA, 2016).
