Guidelines for Music Education Submissions to GIA

GIA will consider for publication any material that is suitable for any music education discipline—including band, orchestra, choir, and general music—at any level, from preschool to professional.

GIA makes the following assumptions about submissions:

At a minimum, please send a full Table of Contents, an introduction or summary of the project, and one or two sample chapters. Complete manuscripts are preferred. Please also send any related assets—such as audio recordings, graphics, or music notation files—along with a brief bio or resume.

The first review may take up to 90 days. You are free to notify us at any time if you wish to withdraw your work from consideration. Every submission is given individual attention; however, due to the large number of submissions we receive, we may be unable to send a personal report.

If we are interested in your work, we will contact you with further information. In general terms, you will receive a letter of intent with details regarding copyright information and contracts. We pay writers a total combined pro rata royalty of 10% of the retail selling price on all copies sold, as well as 50% of our net receipts from all licensing of a work.

Digital Submissions (preferred):

Please send your manuscript as a PDF or Word document to [email protected]. Related assets, such as audio files, graphics, or music notation files (Finale or Sibelius), may be sent via email as well.
