This setting of Psalm 118 is centered around two themes, the hymn tune PUER NOBIS as the refrain and A Trumpett Minnuett by Jeremiah Clarke, which serves for a ritornello, the returning musical theme that acts as an interlude between the refrain and the verses. It can be performed with the full complement of instruments, or with solo trumpet, with strings, or with organ alone.
