Description:
A concertato on a 17th-century Swedish folk tune and text. This is an Advent hymn with strong references to Palm Sunday and would be appropriate at either time. The congregation sings on stanzas 2 and 4, with the choir introducing the tune on stanza 1 and offering a creative interpretation of stanza 3 in which the choral voices are flung about the room on the phrase “Then fling the gates wide open.”
