Description:
This translation of “Es ist ein’ Ros’ entsprungen” (more commonly translated as “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming”) includes the medieval imagery of Christ as the flower that “springeth from earth.” The doxology portion also makes reference to “Mary, God’s own Mother,” making the piece of worthy consideration for repertoire on January 1. The melody is passed between tenors and sopranos, while the remaining voices take up a wordless choral accompaniment.
