Description:
Written as a musical reaction to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968, Anguished American Easter was improvised and performed on Good Friday and during two Easter services at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington, DC, that same year. Based on the revised and expanded version written in 1969 by Thomas Kerr, additional registration and tempo changes along with other corrections to the revised version have been made. An additional variation, “French Scherzino,” has also been included. Published for the first time, this edition is Thomas Kerr’s definitive vision of the work; however, those wishing to eliminate the new variation may do so without sacrificing the power of this profound commentary on the assassination of Dr. King.
