Description:
We are all in exile until we find a home in God. This text goes on to name the plight of the emigrant, the nomad, the prisoner, the homeless, those who are held captive in the mind, but also the well-off, reminding us that we are all in exile till in God we are made whole. The music, somewhat folksong-like in character, is unison for stanzas 1 and 2, SA in the form of alto melody with descant on 3, two contrasting SATB treatments of 4 and 5, and a gentle unison 6. Oboe and clarinet provide continual added color.
