Quinn, Iain

Iain Quinn enjoys a distinguished career as an organist, choral director, and composer. He studied with Nicolas Kynaston, Thomas Murray, William Porter (improvisation), and John Weaver. At fourteen he was appointed Director of Music at St. Michael’s Theological College, Llandaff. He subsequently joined the faculty of the Blackheath Conservatory, London. He moved to the USA in 1994 to pursue studies at The Juilliard School, The Hartt School, University of Hartford (BM summa cum laude), and Yale University (MM) returning to the UK to pursue a PhD (historical musicology) at the University of Durham where he was a Doctoral Fellow. During his PhD studies he was also a Visiting Fellow at Harvard University. He has served parishes in New York City and Connecticut and from 2005-2010 he was Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at the Cathedral Church of St. John, Albuquerque, New Mexico. As a concert organist he has performed in Europe, North and South America, the Far East, Belarus, Russia, and Australia. His compositions have received premieres by the choirs of Gonville and Caius College and Trinity College, Cambridge, under Geoffrey Webber and Stephen Layton respectively and Westminster Cathedral under Martin Baker. He has delivered academic papers at universities across North America and in the UK and Italy, and edited critical editions of music by Carl Czerny and John Goss (A-R Editions) and Samuel Barber (G. Schirmer). He has received awards from The Prince’s Trust, ASCAP, the Louise Dyer award from Musica Britannica and a grant from the Music and Letters Trust. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists, Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music and a Fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust.
