This work for chorus and chamber orchestra was premiered to acclaim by the Oakwood University Aeolians at the 2019 National ACDA conference. Composer Ken Burton has combined new material with spirituals and text by important historical figures to create a piece that follows the experience of black Americans during and after the Civil Rights period. Includes texts by Martin Luther King, Jr., Paul Laurence Dunbar, Thomas Day, John Bicknell, and William Blake. This substantial work will be a good fit for collegiate, professional, and community ensembles. Can be performed unaccompanied or with chamber orchestra.
