Book 5 Teacher's Edition guides students in more advanced keyboard, audiation, and improvisation skills. Students learn 7th, 9th, and 11th chords as well as how to use the chromatic mediant. New tonalities include Phyrigian, Lydian and Locrian. In addition, students will be playing more advanced solos that are learned by applying audiation skills to notation.
It is important to keep the lesson-time activities focussed on building and maintaining audiation and keyboard skills while students learn solo repertoire. Activities to do this are provided in these lesson plans.
