While Krump is not prohibitively difficult, it does require skill from every section within the ensemble. There are extensive solo passages and tricky ensemble rhythms.
The “Battle Dance” section in the middle features difficult clarinet, tuba, trumpet, and xylophone solos as well as fast-moving woodwind and brass soli sections. The composer has spoken of writing more solo and soli passages so that each conductor may custom-build the section to the strengths of their band.
These additional solo passages are not yet extant as of the writing of this guide, but should be available soon. Multiple tonguing is required throughout the work and the mallet parts are involved.
