Description:
Using the simplest of means but with extraordinary effect, this Christmas musical is based on the kind-hearted King Wenceslas of Bohemia as depicted in the familiar carol. It is the touching story of the struggles of young Zach and his mother, Anna, as their community celebrates the feast of Saint Stephen at Christmas. "Good King Wenceslas" may be effectively accompanied by piano only or with any or all of the optional instruments: Flute, two handbell ringers (2 octaves), bass and tambourine. Helpful staging, costuming, and prop suggestions and directions are included. There are eleven speaking/singing parts that may easily portrayed by children and teenagers or adults, and of course, a children's choir as the Bohemian community. And in addition to the traditional "Good King Wenceslas" carol and the"Dona Nobis Pacem" benediction, the creative and accessible music for children by Hal Hopson is a highlight of the work. Performance Flute, Tambourine, Double Bass, Handbells (2 octaves)
