Description:
The lovely poem, First Cradle, by Brian Newhouse speaks poignantly of a parent/care-giver holding their child--and reflecting on the power of that bond. Newhouse's evocative text provides the singer and audience multiple ways to find themselves, their loved ones, and their own sacred moments with friends and family embedded in those words. Ideal for any time of year, but especially captivating during the Advent season, as it evokes thoughts of the holy child of Christmas. The piece will have special resonance during the graduation season, as well, as parents in the audience will hear their sentiments given voice: "you will go and grow, and these arms will lift this moment into my heart; I will carry it there." True to his style, Kyle Pederson works magic with the poem, with a captivating melody and compelling sonorities throughout. An optional cello part provides a wonderful additional texture.
