The work was commissioned by and dedicated to the Hofstra University Symphonic Band conducted by Peter Loel Boonshaft. The work is programmatic and based upon the doyo (children’s song) “Sunayama.”
The work centers around the keys of F and G minor, with the melody being highly pentatonic. The work is in simple time (4/4) with rhythmic considerations, including thirty-second notes, ritardandos, a tempo, and fermatas.
