The words of Thomas H. Troeger are an appeal to God to deliver us from our own predisposition to hypocrisy; rather, to cast us as the purest gold, worthy to be a vessels for grace, truth and love. Austin C. Lovelace has paired the text with the sturdy tune ARFON. The arrangement begins in minor, with lovely a cappella writing in verse 2, changing to major for the final verse.
