A Little Tango Music was written in 2007 and is published by G & M Brand. Notes provided in the score by the composer state, “This is a short sequence of melodies inspired by the curvaceous, melancholic and dangerous dance from Argentina that is the tango. The three brief movements can be played in any order, or separately.”
A Little Tango Music was composed with younger players in mind, but is certainly worthy of performance by ensembles at more advanced levels. Though technical demands are moderate, the work embodies a wealth of educational and musical merit, compositional craft, and creativity. “This miniature suite of three movements attempts to show in a trio of snapshots the varied moods and colors of the tango.” Beautiful melodies partnered with infectious, syncopated rhythms are combined to create a delightful and refreshing work for less-experienced players.
