Mahal, Vineel Garisa

An Indian-American, Texas-raised singer, arranger, composer, and educator, Vineel Garisa Mahal has been Chanticleer's high tenor since 2022. He has performed with Fort Worth Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Casa Mañana, and Hong Kong Disneyland, and has been featured in works by prominent living composers, originating the role of Roderick in Kamala Sankaram's burlesque opera "The Emperor and the Queen." In his own composing, Vineel creates diaspora music, exploring the intersections of Carnatic, Hindustani, and Western music traditions. He has had his works premiered by Chanticleer, NOTUS Ensemble of Indiana University, Montana All-State choir, and the Houston-based treble chorus Casulana. As a part of Chanticleer's 2025 Bay Area program, he curated "Choodandi," a concert of entirely Indian and Indian-American music, much of which he either arranged or composed. He remains committed to sharing the beauty of Indian music with western audiences.
