Acker, Vance

Vance Acker teaches choral music at Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona. However, in his twenty-four years as a public school educator, he has taught elementary general music, junior high choir, Advanced Placement (AP) music theory, and freshman world history. Mr. Acker has also been an adjunct professor at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, where he has taught music theory, ear training, history of jazz and American pop music, a survey of American music, the history and culture of hip-hop, beginning conducting, and music history from Antiquity to 1750. In addition, he has directed the CGCC Community Chorale and Women’s Choir.

Mr. Acker is an active member in the Arizona Music Educators Association, having served as the Southwest Region Choir chairperson for six years and as the region governor for three years. He has been invited twice to be the guest conductor of the Tempe District Junior High Honor Choir, the clinician for the Tempe Sixth Grade Choir Festival, and the 2007 Arizona Junior High All-State Choir. His program at Hamilton high school has been listed as one of two model programs in the textbook Creating Excellence in Choirs and Orchestras, GIA.

He earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Choral Music Education from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Music in Music Education degree from Boston University.
