Pascual, Tomas
Tomás Pascual (c. 1595-1635), a Mayan composer from Heuheutenango, Guatemala, was trained by a Spanish chapelmaster and later became a chapelmaster himself. The chapel master in native Guatemalan villages was called a fiscal, who was the priest's officer in charge of singers and instrumentalists; he could read and write, execute justice, and had more influence than the mayor.
