Stewart, Tobin
Tobin Stewart, author of Leading as a Conductor: With Integrity of Heart and Skillful Hands, is a Professor of Music at Montana State University, where he conducts the symphony orchestra and teaches conducting and music education courses. His teaching experience includes positions ranging from middle school to college in Florida, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Montana.
Along with guest conducting groups from middle school to professional and presenting in the areas of conducting and music education, Tobin’s passion is empowering student leaders. Facilitating leadership workshops with select leaders or whole classes, Tobin encourages students to lead from their unique strengths within the context of a team.
Tobin’s education includes a D.M.A. in orchestral conducting and a M.M. in music education from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, and a B.A. in music education from Saint Olaf College. His love for music and music education began as a student growing up in Montana, and he now thoroughly enjoys encouraging new music educators on their journey. Outside of the music world, Tobin devotes his time to his wife and three kids. He also loves a good book, hiking, skiing, mountain biking, and a predictable routine.
