Wagner, Sally
Sally S. Wagner retired after 40 years of public school teaching, the last 34 years as Director of Bands at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland, where she conducted four concert bands, jazz band, and oversaw the Dixieland Combo, Clarinet Choir, Woodwind Quintet, and Brass Quintet. During her 34 years at the school, her bands earned a reputation for superior musicianship and performance standards, and were recognized as outstanding by respected adjudicators at local, national, and international music festivals. Before coming to Eleanor Roosevelt, she taught junior high band, strings, choir, general music, high school choir, elementary general music, and beginning brass and percussion.
Ms. Wagner is a MENC Nationally Registered Music Educator. She has received more than two-dozen awards for teaching excellence, and her retirement was noted with a letter from President Obama. Many of her accomplishments as a teacher are listed in the Congressional Record of April 29, 2015.
Ms. Wagner earned degrees from Michigan State University and University of Delaware. She is a member of National Association for Music Education, Women Band Directors International, and Maryland Band Directors Association. She is active as an adjudicator, clinician, and guest conductor and writes articles for The Woman Conductor and BandWorld magazines.
