Real Group,
The Swedish vocal group is famed for superlative creativity as they delight with jazz originals and reworkings of popular favorites. One of the leading forces in the world of vocal music today, The Real Group's performances display a combination of vocal artistry, insatiable humor and a unique personal touch, making their unmistakable sound accessible to everyone, from those exploring music for the first time to the most demanding ear.
The Real Group has created a unique musical expression in the field between jazz, pop, and Nordic European choral music. Formed at Stockholm's Royal Academy of Music, from which members of the original group graduated in 1989, The Real Group have enjoyed an international touring career for nearly 30 years, with highlights including prestigious events such as the Queen of Sweden's birthday (when they performed the Abba classic 'Dancing Queen' together with the former Abba member Anni-Frid Lyngstad) and performing at the opening of the FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan.
Their versatility and creativity makes it possible for the group to collaborate with symphony orchestras, jazz groups, and pop bands alike - not to mention artists such as Barbara Hendricks, Toots Thielemans, and Sir George Martin.
In 2008, the Real Group curated and hosted "The Real A Cappella Festival" and in 2012 "The Real Group Festival" in Stockholm, welcoming visitors from more than 20 countries. Members of the group have also been Artistic Directors for an A Cappella Festival in Seoul, South Korea. Education and outreach remains at the core of the group's work, with an online educational site "The Real Group Academy" and as Ambassadors for the charity Star For Life in Sweden and South Africa.
With an impressive discography, The Real Group has released a wealth of celebrated discs, including their most recent offerings: A World for Christmas (Universal Music 2012) and Live in Japan (own label 2013). The Real Group's arrangements are available through Walton Music.
