Pege, Motshwane

Motshwane Pege is a South African composer, described by Gramophone as "a fresh voice, notable for his beautifully layered textures." Internationally recognized for his rhythmic vitality, harmonic richness, and distinctive use of colour, his music has received top prizes from the New Dublin Voices Composition Competition, the Busan Choral Festival, and the Ensemble Altera Composition Competition. His work has been performed by Ensemble Altera, the International Orange Chorale of San Francisco, Polski Chór Kameralny, and New Dublin Voices, with premieres across the United States, Germany, South Korea, South Africa, and Ireland. In addition to composing, he is an active orchestral percussionist and educator, teaching orchestral percussion, leading African marimba ensembles, and presenting composition seminars in South Africa.
