Babin, L. Randolph
L. Randolph (Randy) Babin is a choral music educator, director, and composer residing in Beaumont, Texas. He was a member of the music faculty at Lamar University from 1968-2005. During his tenure, he served as Director of Choral Activities from 1981-2001 and Chair of the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance from 2000-2005. In May 1995, he was awarded the title Regent’s Professor of Music in recognition of his distinguished teaching. He retired from Lamar University in 2005 with 37 years of service. Dr. Babin also served as director of the St. Jude Thaddeus Chorale in Beaumont, Texas., a position that he held for 39 years. Whereas his primary accomplishments have been in choral music, he has had considerable experience in the areas of opera, musical theater, and instrumental music.
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. Babin received the degrees Bachelor of Music Education (1965), Master of Music Education (1968), and Doctor of Philosophy (1987) from Louisiana State University.
