Gray, Jerrell R.

Jerrell R. Gray (b. 1989) composer, conductor, musician, is a graduate of Southern University and A&M College where he received his Bachelor of Music degree. He is a native of Chicago, Illinois. Mr. Gray has published works with Hal Leonard, Walton Music, Inc., and GIA Publications, Inc. His works and commissions have been performed nationally and internationally. He is the founder and director of the Neoteric Chorale. Most recently, Mr. Gray received three commissions. Mr. Gray was commissioned by the Cincinnati Song Initiative to compose a piece in the Inaugural National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Composer Mentorship Program. Mr. Gray was commissioned to compose a song cycle for the Master's Recital of Hailey Cohen through the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater and Dance Eileen Weiser EXCEL Fund. Mr. Gray was also commissioned by the Sing My Song program, a project of the Classic Song Research Initiative in partnership with the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, and the Hampsong Foundation, in collaboration with the School at Marygrove. In 2020, Mr. Gray was the 1st place winner of the George Shirley Composers Competition. Mr. Gray has an extensive career composing original works, art songs, and setting biblical texts, hymns, ethnic texts, and spirituals. Mr. Gray is a Music Educator for two schools in South Carolina.
