The combination of liturgical musician and children's theater musician might seem to be an unlikely one. A quick analysis, however, shows that both jobs have a great deal in common. They both deal with transmitting important stories and messages in a highly stylistic manner with the hope that transformation will occur. It also helps if the attention of the assembly can be held for more than five minutes. Jeremy Young is such a musician. Based in the Washington, D.C., area, he has been involved in church music since his time as a graduate student at Catholic University, where he was awarded the masters degree in liturgical music in 1976. During that time and for thirteen years afterwards, he was the music director at the Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament in the District of Columbia.

His list of compositions includes his album We Feel Your Presence, Lord (CS-224). His "We Shall Rise Again" (G-2983) now appears in the funeral music collection Blest Are Those Who Mourn, as well as both Gather hymnals.

His experience with children's theater began in 1974 when he joined the Blue Sky Puppet Theater, a troupe of puppeteers who specialize in bringing value-oriented messages to school students. Jeremy Young's music contributes to the productions that special power that increases the impact of the show.

The wonderful sweep of the chorus section of "We Shall Rise Again" provides a miniature madrigalism of "rising" and "falling" that is most captivating. Theatrical? Perhaps. Successful? You bet.
