Woo, Hyowon
Hyo-Won Woo is a Korean composer whose music is widely performed in the contemporary choral repertoire. Her work brings Korean musical sensibilities into dialogue with contemporary musical language, creating a distinctive expressive voice.
Through her long collaboration with conductor Hak-Won Yoon—including her work as composer-in-residence with the Incheon City Chorale—and later with the National Chorus of Korea, Woo has contributed significantly to the development of contemporary Korean choral music. Her works are commissioned and performed by leading professional ensembles—including choirs, orchestras, and traditional Korean orchestras—and have been presented at international festivals and leading concert venues worldwide.
Woo has also served as music director for major international cultural events. Her music has been the subject of more than twenty master’s and doctoral theses at universities worldwide.
