Enrique Andino holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Texas at Arlington. Enrique has taught classical and electric guitar to students of all ages and backgrounds in Puerto Rico and Texas and has been applying Gordon’s Music Learning Theory to guitar instruction since he started his graduate studies in 2008. Enrique currently teaches 4th–5th general music and 6th–8th grade modern band in Dallas.

An Audiation Based Approach to Guitar Instruction - Music Education

This session will focus on the implementation of the Audiate! Play Guitar through Audiation curriculum in the general music classroom. Participants will be introduced to some of the basic principles of Gordon's Music Learning Theory and will explore several lesson plans from the Audiate! curriculum. Upon completion of this session participants will have a better understanding of how to sequence guitar and musical skills in order to foster the development of both audiation and technical proficiency in their students. There will be an emphasis on movement, singing, and playing guitar throughout the session.

Audiation in the Modern Band Classroom - Music Education

This session will focus on the implementation of Gordon's Music Learning Theory in the modern band classroom. Audiation is the ability to "think" music. We audiate when we make predictions about the music we hear, when we improvise, create music, and read music. If audiation is so crucial to the musical development of our students, how can we help foster its development within our modern band classroom? How can we use Gordon’s Music Learning Theory to better structure the skills we want to teach our students? Activities and techniques to foster the development of audiation in both elementary and secondary modern band settings will be explored.

Contemporary Mexican Guitar Music - Music Education

This session will introduce participants to one of the most important popular music genres Mexican-American students are listening to today: Campirano music (also known as Sierreño music). Even though this genre originated in Mexico, it has become an integral part of contemporary urban music in the United States. Participants will learn to play songs on the guitar and will be introduced to several artists from the "regional urbano" movement.
