Doyon, Doris

Doris Doyon has been a conductor and music educator for over twenty years, leading instrumental ensembles at the college, high school, and middle school levels. She most recently served as Director of Bands at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California, where she conducted the wind ensemble, chamber ensemble, and taught music appreciation. She previously served as Director of Instrumental Music at Norwalk High School, a Title I school in southeast Los Angeles County. During her tenure the instrumental music program grew to include three concert bands, a marching band, jazz band, and an orchestra. The band earned a six-year designation as a Grammy Signature School Program, and hosted many clinicians from around the nation.

Doyon is an active clinician, presenter, and guest conductor. Recent local and national appearances include the Midwest Clinic and conferences of the College Band Directors National Association, Iowa Music Educators Association, Michigan Music Educators Association, and Oral History Association Convention.

Doyon completed a DMA in wind conducting at UCLA in December of 2022, and will complete a PhD in music education, with a cognate in wind conducting, at the University of Michigan in 2026. There, she was a Rackham Graduate School Merit Fellow as well as a graduate student instructor in the music education department. In addition, she has served as both assistant and interim director of the Michigan Youth Band and as conductor for the University of Michigan Alumni Concert Band. She earned a Master of Arts in conducting and percussion performance from Truman State University and bachelor’s degrees in music education and music performance cum laude from Pacific Lutheran University. Her primary conducting teachers include Raydell Bradley, Travis J. Cross, Michael Haithcock, and Dan Peterson.
