Trumfio, Dominic
Chicago musician Dominic Trumfio's multi-faceted career has made him well known within a variety of musical circles. As a woodwind multi-instrumentalist, performing on flute, saxophone, clarinet, recorders, pennywhistles, and various other ethnic woodwinds, he has been active in the musical theater scene since 1995. Dominic spent three years (2000-2003) with the national touring company of Les Misérables. During this time he had the honor of performing the show in Shanghai, China, for its Asian premiere. This acclaimed production featured Colm Wilkinson, the original Jean Valjean from the Broadway production.
After returning to Chicago, Dominic has been an active musician in the local theater scene. He has performed in productions for Broadway in Chicago and several of the area's nationally recognized regional theaters. Some of his favorite performances include: Idina Menzel in Concert, the PBS special A Christmas Carol - The Concert, La Cage Aux Folles with George Hamilton, the 25th Anniversary Production of Les Misérables, Candide at the Goodman Theater, the opening of the Shrek The Musical national tour at the Cadillac Palace Theater, Michael Crawford in Concert for the grand re-opening of the Bank of America Theater, the premiere and original cast recording of Stephen Flaherty's musical Loving Repeating and the world-premieres of Now and Forever: The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber and The Bowery Boys at the Marriott Theater in Lincolnshire.
As a church musician, Dominic was named Director of Worship Music for Old St. Patrick's Church, Chicago in 2013. He is also a performing artist, clinician and editor for GIA Publications, North America's preeminent publisher of Roman Catholic church music. As part of his association with GIA, Dominic has been a featured performer on many of their liturgical music albums. He released his first solo recording with GIA in 2009 entitled The Image and the Hope. He was a member of the editing team for Gather - Third Edition, which is currently the best selling hymnal in the United States. Dominic also serves as the music director for the Bernardin Center at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago (CTU). He is an active workshop presenter having presented workshops (The Liturgical Flutist) for both the National Flute Association (NFA) and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM).
Dominic holds a degree in flute performance from Northwestern University. His flute teachers include Walfrid Kujala and Richard Graef. He currently resides in Chicago with his family.
