Hall, Daniel J.
Dr. Hall began his appointment as Director of Choral Activities at Ohio University in August 2012. He conducts the Ohio University Singers and Singing Men of Ohio as well as overseeing the graduate direction of the Ohio University Women’s Chorale and Choral Union. He also serves as faculty leader for the male and female student vocal organizations Section VIII and Title IX. Dr. Hall’s teaching responsibilities include courses in conducting, choral repertoire, and choral methods.
As Director of Choral Activities at West Texas A&M University from 2003-2012, Dr. Hall conducted four choirs and taught courses in conducting, voice methods, composition, choral arranging, and music education. He designed and administered the M.M. in Performance with Specialization in Choral Conducting.
As a clinician, guest conductor, and composer, he has travelled across the country. In 2005 he created the Texas Panhandle Honor Choir, a recruiting festival bringing 200-300 area high school and junior high students to the West Texas A&M campus annually to work with nationally recognized choral conductors. During his time in Texas, he served nine years as Region I Chairman for Texas University Interscholastic league (UIL) choral and solo/ensemble contests.
Choirs under his direction have performed throughout the United States and abroad. In 2010, the WT Chamber Singers established a tradition of annual international touring, performing throughout England, Belgium and France, in venues such as St. Paul’s Cathedral, Oxford University, Gloucester Cathedral, Church of the Madeleine (Paris), and University of Leuven (Belgium). The choir toured Northern Italy in 2011 as part of the Classical Music Festival of Montova, performing in venues such as Saint Marks Basilica, Venice, and Teatro Bibiena, Montova. In 2012, WT Chamber Singers completed a tour to Southern France and Spain. Performance highlights included concerts in Barcelona Cathedral and Eglise Saint-Paul de Sancè.
As an actively commissioned composer, Dr. Hall’s works have been featured in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, with performances as far away as Venezuela and Ireland’s Cork International Choral Festival. His music has been widely featured at festivals and conventions, including national American Choral Directors Association conventions in Chicago, Oklahoma City, and New York, and divisional ACDA conventions in Kansas City, Memphis, and Reno. In recent years, all-state festival choruses in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, and Texas have performed his music. His scores are published with Walton Music, Colla Voce Press, and Santa Barbara.
Dr. Hall resides in The Plains, Ohio, with his wife Bonnie and their five children: Elizabeth, Gale, Logan, Lydia, and Phoebe. In his free time, he enjoys, fly-fishing, Karate, hiking, racquetball, and reading.
