Price, Damian
Damian DeMond Price, affectionally known as “D.D.” by close family and friends, is a native Houstonian, who began singing in the Baptist church choir at the age of five years old. He is a self-taught pianist who learned to read music while reading the section on music of an encyclopedia at the age of eleven. Damian is a graduate of the prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA). While in his teens he was accompanying the choirs at New Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he was mentored by Dr. Jessie Mae Berry. Upon graduation from HSPVA, Damian enrolled at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX. There, he co-founded the College Gospel Choir. He eventually, transferred to Texas Southern University in Houston, TX where he continued his studies in Music Education and graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education and is a certified public-school educator. Additionally, Damian has an earned Master of Arts Degree in Music and Worship from Liberty University. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Worship Studies from Liberty University while working for the Houston Independent School District as the Music Curriculum Specialist for General Music, Vocal Music and Piano K -12. And, serves as Minister of Music for the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where the Rev. Dr. Edwin A. Davis, is Pastor.
In 2003 he formed the group “Praise” and released an independent project in 2005 entitled God Meant it for My Good. Damian Price-N- Praise with the Houston Mass Choir of the Gospel Music Workshop of America and the Covenant Glen United Methodist Choir. The title track, God Meant it for My Good, which was #1 on local radio stations for several months. Damian Price-N-Praise released their Sophomore Project, I Am Healed Today in 2012. The project features, traditional, contemporary and sacred music; with guest appearances by recording artist, Nikki Ross and Chester D. T. Baldwin. Damian is blessed to have be mentored by Dr. Margaret Pleasant Douroux and the late Dr. Theola Booker and is the co-organizer for the Houston Area Musicians Fellowship (HAMF) with Ministers Keith Eason and Chad Brawley. He was honored to receive the National Association for the Study and Performance of African American Music (NASPAAM) with the Rising Start Award
Damian has had the opportunity to have his music published by several publishing companies and compositions appear in the New National Baptist Convention Hymnal, Total Praise, GIA Publishing’s Next Generation of Catholic Hymnals, Lead Me, Guide Me and the newly released ecumenical hymnal, One Church, One Faith, One Baptism. His music has been performed by renowned choirs around the country and by the Hampton University Ministers’ Conference, Gospel Music Workshop of America (National Mass Choir, Women’s and Men’s Divisions, and the New Music Seminar); National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses (Mass, Alumni and Youth and Young Adults), The National Baptist Convention USA Inc, and recorded by St. Mark Sanctuary Choir, Little Rock, Deric Lewis and the Mt. Sinai Church Choir, The Voices of Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Total Praise Hidden Favorites, Theola Booker and Friends featuring the Greater St. Matthew Mass Choir, Chester D.T. Baldwin and the Texas Mass Choir and Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Choir – Dallas, just to name a few.
