Steffen, Andrew
Andrew Steffen (b. 1990) is a composer, conductor, accompanist, and educator from Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Music Education – Choral from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Choral Conducting from Oklahoma State University with Z. Randall Stroope.
During his time in Wisconsin, Andrew had the opportunity to connect with a handful of composers who have helped guide and mentor him. Such composers include James. Q. Mulholland, Blake Henson, Ola Gjeilo, Paul Basler, and Ethan Wickman. From 2012-2014, Andrew served as the first Composer-in-Residence for The Master Singers of Eau Claire, WI. In addition to working with The Master Singers, Andrew has also had the privilege of premiering multiple works at UW-Eau Claire with Concert Choir, The Singing Statesmen and Women’s Concert Chorale. His music has been featured across the country in reading sessions and conferences and performed both nationally and internationally.
Most recently, Andrew was declared the winner of the Raymond W. Brock Student Composition Contest sponsored by ACDA. The winning work, entitled "Spells of Herrick" was premiered in Salt Lake City at the national convention by the Utah State University Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. Cory Evans. In 2013, Andrew's piece "Adoro te, Devote" was named the winner of the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association (WCDA) Student Composition Contest. His works continually are performed by ensembles across the nation at conferences, reading sessions, and concerts.
