Schay, Mari
Mari Schay is the Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor of Music Education at Portland State University where she teaches a variety of music education courses. She is passionate about preparing future teachers to enter the PK–12 music classroom with humility and curiosity as well as the desire to serve all students in their schools by offering a broad curriculum in both traditional and modern music classes.
Prior to joining the faculty at PSU, Mari taught elementary and middle school music for twenty-three years, the last eighteen of which were at Earl Boyles Elementary School in Portland, Oregon. Mari is the author and editor of many curricular resources for general music teachers including pop music arrangements for Orff instruments.
Mari has a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance and Master of Arts in Teaching from Willamette University and a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
