Woody, Sr, Robert
Robert Henley Woody, Sr., is a professor of psychology, an attorney, a psychologist, and a health scientist. Foremost, he considers himself to be a musician.
Dr. Woody has performed on numerous recordings and television and radio programs. After being “on the road,” teaching school music, and playing in a myriad of dancehalls and honky-tonks, he turned his interests and talents to higher education.
From Western Michigan University, he holds Bachelor of Music Education (BMus) degree, with performance areas in voice, trumpet, and string bass. He has earned a Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees from Michigan State University, Specialist in Education (EdS) degree from Western Michigan University, Doctor of Science (ScD) degree from the University of Pittsburgh (ScD), and law (JD) degree from Creighton University. He has also studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (trumpet with Horace Barker) and Vanderbilt-Blair School of Music (mandolin with Jerome “Butch” Baldassari, and tuba with Gil Long). He has authored numerous scholarly articles and books on education, mental health, law, and musicianship.
After being on the faculties at the State University of New York at Buffalo, the University of Maryland, the Grand Valley State University, and the Ohio University, Dr. Woody became Professor of Psychology (and former Dean for Graduate Studies and Research) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He is an active music performer.
