Wagner, Meghan
Meghan Wagner graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Music Education and from Central Washington University in 2014 with a Master of Music Education. In 2010, she became a National Board Certified Teacher, and she was a quarter-finalist for Grammy Teacher of the Year in 2013.
Meghan is Director of Bands at Auburn Riverside High School in Auburn, Washington. The Auburn Riverside High School (WA) band program includes three jazz bands, percussion ensemble, three concert bands, Silver Sound Basketball Band, and marching band. Under Meghan’s leadership, the ARHS Wind Ensemble traveled to New York in 2014 to perform at Carnegie Hall, and also earned invitations to perform at the WorldStrides Festival of Gold in Los Angeles in 2016 and 2018, and the National Association for Music Education Northwest Conference in 2017. The ARHS Wind Ensemble was invited to New York again in 2020 to perform at Carnegie Hall. In addition to large group success, the band students at Auburn Riverside are active participants in a rigorous chamber music program. Many chamber ensembles from ARHS have represented the Green River Region at the State Solo & Ensemble Contest for the past 18 years. State award winners from ARHS in the last ten years include the Trombone Quartet (2013), Clarinet Ensemble (2014), trombone soloist and the Brass Quintet (2017), euphonium soloist (2022), Flute/Tuba Duet and oboe soloist (2023).
In demand as a clinician, guest conductor, and adjudicator, Meghan enjoys sharing her passion for music education in a variety of settings. She has been hired throughout the Northwest to guest conduct the Mid-Columbia High School Honor Band, the Commencement Bay Middle School Honor Band, the Bethel School District High School Honor Band, the Northshore Middle School Honor Band, and the Sno King Middle School Honor Band. Meghan always strives to lift up underrepresented voices in wind band through commissioning, repertoire selection, and visiting artists. She has also served as the conductor of the Washington Ambassadors of Music Band, which traveled and performed throughout Europe in 2016 and 2018.
A constant advocate for the importance of music education, Meghan has served as President, Treasurer, and Contest Manager for the Green River Music Educators Association. She served on the Secondary Music Committee for the Auburn School District from 2017–2020 and has been Performing Arts Department Chair at Auburn Riverside High School since 2012. Meghan is currently serving as the Band Curriculum Officer for the Washington Music Educators Association, and she was also co-chair of the WMEA All-State Task Force in 2023.
Meghan, a French horn and jazz piano player, lives in Federal Way, Washington, with her husband Ryan and their four daughters, Hailey, Mya, Ella, and Sophia. Ryan is the trombone professor at Pacific Lutheran University and St. Martin’s University, and is a professional trombone player with Olympia Symphony, Federal Way Symphony, Kalimba, and Seattle Rock Orchestra. Meghan has performed with the Olympia Symphony Orchestra, Tacoma Concert Band, and Left Coast Brass. Currently, she plays horn in Formation Wind Band and piano in Groove Amendment.
