Description:
“His Precious Body and Blood” is a eucharistic song most ideal for Communion during Mass. The beginning should be played and sung as a ballad with tenderness and reverence, reflecting the lyrics that are based on St. Thomas Aquinas’ quite vulnerable prayer. From the second refrain until the end of the bridge (which is the climax of the piece), the mood can shift from being tender to a more triumphant intensity, where the prayer pleads to reach the “indescribable feast” of heaven. The contemporary Christian style of the piece is reflected in the piano accompaniment, which was written to support, not overshadow, the sung melody and text.
